A Woman's Heat

I stood upon the cross roads on a cold and rainy evening
A bottle in my hand and two more in my belly still heavin'
I'd come to make a deal and I knew the price was my soul
But anything was better than this life without parole.
I'd heard about this all before from Johnson and his kind
I wanted to be rid of me and this damn stupid mind,
Maybe I could barter with the Devil for some peace
Get some release.

There was a flash of lightning and a figure stood in my way
It laughed at me and asked me if I was ready to pay
I laughed right back and said I've nothing to lose,
The only thing I've got left is my soul and these damn shoes

I'd heard about you all before from Johnson and his kind,
You give me peace I'll give you soul and then kiss my behind
She took me for but everything, she took away my heart,
Shall we start?

And then it sniffed the air and made a face
It looked me in the eyes and then it put me in my place
'You are no use to me, you have no soul,' it said,
'She didn't take your heart, but took that instead.'

I'd heard about it all before from Johnson and his kind
I thought it'd give me life anew, I thought it would be fine,
Turns out the Devil cannot compete,
With a woman's heat.
